Pastel colours which look dull on paper work well on the screen, because it is luminous.
Keep background patterns smart and unobtrusive
Light lettering on a dark background looks trendy - for a while - but is very tiring to the eyes and is often an effort to read.

Always think about the overall colour (ugh!) scheme
Be prepared to have your logo available in different colours, so you can use an appropriate version to complement any colour scheme
Keep graphics down to the minimum size and maximum compression compatible with the impression you are trying to create (the jpeg compression algorithm may be tailored to requirement).
