CURRENT PROGRAMME

The Recitals (often in the form of lavishly-illustrated talks) take us to some of the lost lanes and culs-de-sac of sacred music, along some of the better known highways. Often a Gregorian chant setting of a text will be sung immediately before the later polyphonic setting in order to reveal the richness of the contrast. Programmes are often arranged more-or-less in the order of a mass to avoid the feeling that they comprise a string of unconnected items. One of Elizabeth's solos, "The Wreck of the Deutschland", a 20thC setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins' famous poem (in a sense Hopkins' own credo) is occasionally used in place of the Credo of the mass.

The Choir's repertoire is continually changing. The following example selection is by no means exhaustive, but gives a flavour of the pieces sung. An actual performance would involve about half the number shown here, with an Interval at the mid-point:-
