LOOK OUT! Southampton's Titanic story in song.

To mark the centenary of the sinking of RMS Titanic, three Southampton songwriters and performers, Jeff Henry, Brian Hooper and Barry Wake, have come together to tell the story in a production featuring song, music and spoken word. "Look Out!" is told from Southampton's perspective, mainly through the eyes of the crew and in particular Fred Fleet, the unfortunate look-out who first sighted the iceberg. Performed by "White Star Line-up", which comprises the three composers and four other outstanding musicians and singers, preview performances are set for April 2010 and 2011, with the full production forming part of the centenary activities in April 2012. It will also be released as a CD.

About the writers:
Jeff Henry was born in Northam, where many of the Titanic's crew came from. He is well-known in and around Hampshire as a fine singer of traditional and modern songs, both solo and as a member of various groups, and increasingly as a talented songwriter. He has three CD albums to his credit, two of them jointly with Brian Hooper.

Brian Hooper is a singer, guitarist and mandolinist with several decades of experience in clubs, pubs, festivals and concerts. He has written and produced three solo CD albums as well as two with Jeff. A respected and, in recent years, prolific songwriter, many of his songs relate to his home town of Southampton.

Barry Wake also features Southampton in many of his songs. He is an acclaimed songwriter and singer, guitarist and banjo player with four CD albums to his name, and his songs have been widely sung and recorded by others. His last major project was as musical director for “Basingstoke Mysteries”, a collection of six community plays with musical links, working with The Haymarket Theatre, Proteus Theatre Company and TAPS (Traditional Arts Projects).

Jeff, Brian and Barry have brought their considerable talents together to work on "Look Out!", combining their individual styles to create a cohesive and attractively varied piece of work. Contact them via southamptonsongs[at]uwclub.net.

Ali and Mary are part of the Southampton and Romsey folk group Three's Company and Pete Harris is in a folk duo with Mick Ryan as well as being a well-known part of the local blues scene.
