This year's festival was the seventh to be held at Woolston Community Centre, Church Road, Woolston, Southampton.

The daytime activities were open to all and comprised a full programme of song and tune sessions, dance displays, workshops, and a multitude of performers in an informal concert run on the lines of a folk club.

The big change for 2006 was that all of these daytime events were FREE admission.

Loose change can be really cumbersome to carry around, so to help out there were opportunities for you to make voluntary contributions to festival costs (the organisers take no income or profit from the festival and any surplus funds are recycled into future events).

Admission to the Evening concert was £10.00

We welcomed THE MRS ACKROYD BAND as top of the bill in 2006, which was an evening of great entertainment and humour, with scintillating monologues from Les Barker, keyboard wizardry from Chris Harvey and stunning singing from Alison Younger and Hilary Spencer.

Hot and cold food was on sale all day, with breakfast, lunch and tea time menus, courtesy of Louise at McGees, Woolston's top quality sandwich bar and outside caterer.

The Community Association ran a real ale bar all day, with an extensive range of draught and bottled beers to delight the most discerning of palates. A selection of wines, ciders, fruit juices, mineral water, carbonated soft drinks and the like were available and of course the obligatory coffee and tea.

Here is a guide to Saturday (times subject to change) :-
  • 11am to 12pm Voice workshop - learn vocal techniques with acclaimed singer and coach Mavis Sawdy.
  • 11am to 1.30pm Blues and roots session - listen or jam along with top guitarist Arnie Cottrell.
  • 11am to 12 45pm  English Tunes session - listen or jam along with a wide range of instrumentalists.
  • 11am to 1.45pm  Singaround -  a chance to perform that song you always wanted to sing, in a very laid back atmosphere, or just sit back, chill out and listen to whoever turns up.
  • 12.15 to 1.15pm concurrently:-
    • Home recording workshop - Chris Nelson talking about and demonstrating the latest techniques available on how to produce your very own top quality CD.
    • For those who prefer, Bob Askew and Paul Hawkins will be giving an illustrated talk on the early folksong collecting activities of George Gardiner, who collected hundreds of songs from this immediate area of Hampshire.
  • 12.45am to 1.45pm Dance displays -  Great dancing and music from Chequered Flag (Appalachian clogging and French Canadian stepping), Southern Lights (ladies English traditional dancing) and Wickham Morris (Cotswold and Border morris dancing).
  • 2pm to 5pm  Afternoon folk club -  acoustic performances by a vast array of talented singers and musicians, in an informal café atmosphere
  • 5pm to 6pm  More dance displays.
  • 6pm to 7.05pm Tea time concert - Rob Mills performs (6-6.20pm) and Introduces and Interviews The Mrs Ackroyd Band (6.20-7.05pm).
