Fo'c'sle Programme November 2002

1 Anything Goes

Thursday 7 November 8pm Turner Sims Concert Hall
Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham
Fo'c'sle Joint Promotion- £7 Folk Concession 023 8059 5151

8 Derek Brimstone

Spanning blues, traditional, contemporary and much in between, his entire show is linked together with tall stories, fast one-liners, tragic tales of misfortune and an array of extraordinary characters who find themselves in everyday situations which he brings to life, turns around and finds humour in - whatever. Equally skilled on guitar and banjo, he is the real magic East-Ender (don't be fooled by the ersatz TV versions).

15 Anything Goes

22 Tom McConville

Third in our Autumn series of living legends, Tom is one of the finest fiddle players in the British Isles, a brilliant musician with a lovely flowing style and a wonderful singer as well. His interpretations of traditional and contemporary songs are greatly admired by other performers and he is much in demand for his sensitive contributions to other musician's recordings. Make the most of these people while they are still in peak form!

29 The Joyce Gang aboard SS Shieldhall 7.30pm start

SS Shieldhall

Joint Concert with Woolston & Netley Folk Club

The Joyce Gang (John Redmond bodhran and vocals, Paul Downes guitar and vocals, David McKeown sax, uillean pipes etc) are an Anglo/Irish roots band based in England. They have established a fine reputation throughout the British Isles with their stirring live performances, excellent recordings and regular national and local airplay. They have taken audiences by storm at festivals from Sidmouth to Edinburgh and at venues from Derry to Stuttgart.

The songs and tunes in their extensive repertoire are all self-penned and draw on a dizzying variety of styles from traditional irish to modern jazz, covering most musical genres in between, all blended to create the distinctive and uplifting sound that is unique to The Joyce Gang.

Support from Sue Apicella & Paul Horton
