Hilary (stunning voice) draws her songs from almost every genre - comic songs, traditional ballads, contemporary classics - she simply loves to sing and is very well known as a solo performer, as a member of Les Barker's "wonderfully daft" Mrs Ackroyd Band (and was also one-third of much-missed a cappella trio Artisan) appearing on Radio and TV in the UK and USA and touring venues ranging from small pubs to huge festivals in Britain, Germany, Canada, USA, Hong Kong and Australia. It's hard to encapsulate Grant's wide-ranging career as singer-songwriter, guitarist, broadcaster. He is regular "comic songsmith" on BBC R4's Start the Week, has presented BBC1's That's Life and Pebble Mill at One; Suzi Quatro's Gas Street and 2 series plus Album for The Tom O'Connor Show as well as touring the UK and USA as Musical Director/Composer-in-Residence of The Young Shakespeare Company. In Hilary he has found a vocalist who understands his songwriting ethic and can match him note for note. They both possess a wicked sense of humour!
On a basis of well-honed skill and natural talent and after several years ‘learning his trade' at Clubs and Festivals (initially in the West Midlands and latterly in the South) and also winning the EFDSS 75th Anniversary Song Writing Competition (for under-30s) in 2007 with his song The Gold Country, Gene (fine voice, superb guitarist) moved to Birmingham last year and is getting increasingly noticed by those who know a good thing when they hear it, including performing recently as support to Ashley Hutchings & his Lark Rise Band at the Red Lion Folk Club and gaining airplay on some Folk Radio Stations. His material is a wide-ranging mix of his own songs, traditional and contemporary songs and a dash of gospel, most with sensitive guitar accompaniment, but he occasionally sings a beautiful a cappella song. His most recent (of several CDs) is National Geographic and it's well worth acquiring.
