5 Steve & Kristi Nebel

"Steve & Kristi Nebel are a powerhouse duo ... [who] let us feel the drive that makes us keep on keepin' on" (Barbara Seitz of the 'Pot Belly Deli' in USA). Both from 'singing families' in the Pacific North-West of the USA (Kristi's parents were a barbershop duo), their songs are all based on the people thay have met and on the pioneer culture of the region. "[They] draw you into a tale, and make you care about about the people and places" ('Dirty Linen'). Both sing with skill and verve, Steve plays guitar and Kristi an Ibanez electric bass. Last here in October 2002, many regulars will remember the couple's great rapport and infectious enthusiasm. Many of Steve's songs have a 'don't mess with Mother Nature bent and as well as performing in Folk Clubs, the Nebels have graced many historical theme events with specially written songs.

19 Gina Le Faux

Anyone lucky enough to have heard 'Fanfare for the South West' (now available on CD) will know that the tunes linking this wonderful collection of traditional songs were written by Gina and, as Shirley Collins writes, "each tune sounds as though it's been around for centuries".

Specialising in 'Fiddle, Voice, Guitar and Soul', Gina Le Faux has been playing traditional music for most of her life and has been a professional musician for over twenty years. She has toured extensively and has recorded both solo and with various well-known bands and performers including John Kirkpatrick, Hom Bru, Shegui, Red Shift and The Tannahill Weavers. Her music has been broadcast all over the world. Although best known as a fiddle player (rated as one of the best) Gina is a multi-instrumentalist and plays Viola, Mandolin and Guitar. She is a also a fine singer and interpreter of traditional songs as well as an accomplished composer of songs and tunes. Her concert repertoire spans three centuries and she uses authentic instruments of the periods and also violins and violas that she herself has made. Aware of the debt that she owes to the traditional musicians of the past, Gina teaches traditional fiddle playing, handing on to others the skills she herself was handed.
