Fo'c'sle Programme
|
Brought up in Devon, Steve moved to Hampshire 30 years ago and has performed in Clubs, Theatres, Village Halls, Arts Centes and Festivals all over the UK and in the USA. "Having seen him win over a mainstage festival audience with a disarmingly modest but highly professional and entertaining performance, I can only say he should be performing in such places more often" (Brian Peters). Gently laced with natural wit, his wide repertoire ranges through traditional countryside and sea-songs, via Harvest and Christmas, visiting Music Hall and the songs collected in Hampshire by George Gardiner in 1906 (courtesy of Frank Purslow).
Play or Sing, read a Poem, tell a Story, listen, fetch the beer, anything
Canadian Eileen (beautiful voice/plays guitar) loves the traditional songs of the British Isles, including music which reflects her Irish roots, ranging from ancient ballads to rollicking songs of love and adventure and she has the knack of making both her own and traditional songs come alive for listeners. As a songwriter she has been described as a "gifted lyric poet and composer" whose songs "paint pictures, tell stories and poke fun at today's absurdities" all written against a backdrop of her clear-sighted environmental and social sensibilities. Long-term accompanist David (Knutson) plays bass, bouzouki, slide guitar and sings harmony with that rare, seamless, sensitive dexterity which makes a duo a single unit (and some folks want to jump on their own instruments)!Dynamic and vibrant on stage, Eileen McGann's performances are full of laughter, stories and shared voices. With a singing voice of breathtaking beauty, a compelling guitar style and arrangements that grab the ear and the heart, her live shows are riveting, enthralling - and interactive. Delighting audiences from coast to coast across North America and Great Britain, she has been called "one of Canada's most distinguished cultural exports" .
