Fo'c'sle Programme January 2008

4 Anything Goes Special + visit by Simon Hopper solo (2x20m spots)

An unusual format for The Fo'c'sle - perhaps best called a 'Come All Ye'. Simon Hopper (solo) will be visiting with 2x twenty minute slots, and the rest of the evening will be taken up by short (floorspot length) sets from invited local performers, many of whom Brian will already have contacted though there may be space for a few 'from the floor' on the night.

11 Shep Woolley

Replacing Steve Jordan (who is unwell) at short notice.
To actually define what Shep Woolley does is no easy thing. To some he's a folk singer who tells funny stories, to others he's a standup comedian who writes great songs and parodies. He is equally at home in pub or club or onstage at the Albert Hall or the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. He can sing a protest song or belt out Long Tall Sally.

Monday 14 January 1pm SYM Trio in a Turner Sims Free Lunchtime Concert
The Sym Trio explores the vibrant sound world of instruments with sympathetic (resonating) strings. The ensemble performs folk and world music on instruments such as the hardingfele (from Norway) and the nyckelharpa (from Sweden). Their music is heavily influenced by Scandinavian folk music

18 Anything Goes

Play or Sing, read a Poem, tell a Story, listen, fetch the beer, anything

25 Leon Rosselson ... launching his new CD ‘A Proper State' (working title)

Immensely respected by his peers (look at the guest names on his CDs), Leon (voice, guitar) has toured the planet bringing the joys of a ‘World Turned Upside Down' - one of his many well-known songs, recorded by Billy Bragg (among others) who got it in the charts in 1985. His early topical/satirical songs featured in TV's ‘That Was The Week That Was' and he's written songs for famous plays, published 17 children's books and presents 2 shows ‘A Dinosaur in my Shoe' and ‘Look at it this way' (for grownups). As well as humorous traditional-style songs with ironical or sardonically-human twists, he writes children's songs which adults love too - he may even sing one or two, but only if there are children present
