FROM ANYWHERE WEST OF SO'TON — via motorway

From SALISBURY / northern NEW FOREST, use A36;
from the WATERSIDE, use A326; both join M27 at Junction 2

From ROMSEY, use A27, then A3057 on to M27 via Junction 3

From (south-)western / central NEW FOREST, use A31 / M27

Ignore first SOUTHAMPTON signs off M27. At Junction 4, past Rownhams Services, keep in middle or right lanes, following AIRPORT / PORTSMOUTH (N.B there's no Jn. 6)

Off roundabout at Junction 7 (HEDGE END / BOTLEY / A334) take 4th exit RIGHT (care: traffic-lights controlled all the way round) signed SOUTHAMPTON, towards large aerial with two red lights on top

Off roundabout at foot of aerial, take 4th exit RIGHT
(sign-posted SWAYTHLING / WEST END / A27)

2nd LEFT (after approx.3/4-mile, sign-posted HAREFIELD with HGV-restriction symbol) into Cheriton Avenue, an almost continuously right-curving road as far as a T-junction, facing open wooded area with flats beyond

LEFT into Somerset Avenue. Over slight blind brow, then next RIGHT into Exford Avenue (with Exford Arms pub on corner)

Burnham Chase is 100 or so yards on LEFT. "The First" is at the top of the hill, on left, behind the "forest" of holly!!
