(If you get in the wrong lane (New Forest / Bournemouth) here, don't panic: take the SOUTHAMPTON A33 slip-road shortly after the M-way splits. At roundabout, take 1st exit LEFT: this is the A27. Follow the A27 signs (FAREHAM/PORTSMOUTH) for several miles of twists and turns: at the top of the second UP-hill, you'll be at West End Church (with a right turn for Bitterne) a point at the lower right of our map. Stay on the A27 for a further good 1/2-mile (straight) and you'll find the HAREFIELD sign - but pointing RIGHT, of course - described a few paragraphs down)

At M27 Junction 7 (N.B. there is no Jn. 6) sign-posted HEDGE END / BOTLEY / A334, take 4th exit RIGHT off roundabout (care: traffic-lights controlled all the way round) signed SOUTHAMPTON, towards a large aerial with two red lights on top

2nd LEFT (after approx. 3/4-mile, sign-posted HAREFIELD with HGV-restriction symbol) into Cheriton Avenue, an almost continuously right-curving road, as far as a T-junction, facing open wooded area with flats beyond

LEFT into Somerset Avenue. Over slight blind brow, then next RIGHT into Exford Avenue (with Exford Arms pub on corner)
