for areas between the A31 and A32. East of the A32, use the A3(M) / M27.
North of the A31, it may be best to use the M3 Winchester bypass, then the M27
From A3 (e.g. Guildford) keep left on bypass uphill, for A31. In a succession of junctions / roundabouts after Farnham, look for one with brown signs to JANE AUSTEN'S HOUSE: take 2nd exit LEFT for A32. Take 2nd exit RIGHT (for BISHOP'S WALTHAM B3035) off the next one (at Corhampton 13+ miles)
From Alresford, take B3046 for CHERITON; through village, look out for BISHOP'S WALTHAM sign on right at left-handed bend
Ignore first TOWN CENTRE sign to left. Off roundabout, take 1st exit LEFT (sign-posted B2177 / WICKHAM / FAREHAM / TOWN CENTRE)
3rd exit RIGHT off roundabout by The Crown pub, for BOTLEY (about 3 miles)
Beware!! sharp bend to left after a long (highly tempting!!) 50mph "straight" (large sign indicates No Entry straight ahead) only a few yards before T-junction. Turn RIGHT, past Botley Station and THROUGH BOTLEY village
2nd exit (11 o'clock-ish angle & not signposted) off roundabout just past Texaco garage on right
THROUGH HEDGE END village (STRAIGHT ON at lights: middle lane) to M27
2nd exit (11 o'clock-ish angle) off roundabout (care: traffic-lights controlled) for SOUTHAMPTON, towards a large aerial with two red lights on top
4th exit RIGHT off roundabout at foot of aerial (for SWAYTHLING / WEST END / A27)
2nd LEFT (after approx. 3/4-mile, sign-posted HAREFIELD with HGV-restriction symbol) into Cheriton Avenue, an almost continuously right-curving road, as far as T-junction, facing open wooded area with flats behind
LEFT into Somerset Avenue. Over slight blind brow, then next RIGHT into Exford Avenue (with Exford Arms pub on corner)
Burnham Chase is 100 or so yards on LEFT. "The First" is at the top of the hill, on left, behind the "forest" of holly!!
