From City Centre and across the bridge, follow BITTERNE A3024 signs, to within sight of a large concrete bridge overhead
Leave the dual-carriageway (Bitterne Road West and, on the map, Maybray King Way, but everyone knows it as The Bitteme Bypass) immediately after the junction under the bridge (The 1st exit - to ignore - is sign-posted WEST END / BITTERNE etc.); the 2nd exit, to take, which looks like a slip-road on to your road (it is one, so filter in with care) iS sign-posted HEDGE END / BOTLEY / LEISURE CENTRE
(If you pass through filter traffic-lights here, you've got on to the wrong road: carry STRAIGHT ON through lights, LEFT at next (Bath Road, by Chinese take-away) and LEFT at T-junction. As the hill begins to flatten out, there's a pelican-crossing, followed by a RIGHT turn by the Eastern Library (signed LEISURE CENTRE) This is Commercial Street, referred to below)
After 150 yds., take next LEFT (Commercial Street) between Eastern Library & R. C. Payne's, sign-posted LEISURE CENTRE (ignore next LEISURE CENTRE sign, almost immediately again).
After the Percy Arms, Commercial Street turns away at about an 11 o'clock angle Take the minor road (Shales Road) STRAIGHT AHEAD as far as the Give Way sign.
Turn RIGHT (with care: the road hard on your left is a bit unsighted) into Taunton Drive. Burnham Chase is the 3rd LEFT (the one after the pillar-box and before hill steeply down).
"The First" is the first house on right (with holly hedge) not the bungalow on the corner (which, despite the gateway, is 45 Taunton Drive)
