Route (A): follow your usual route to the top of Lances' Hill at Bitterne
Almost opposite Esso garage turn RIGHT (Hatley Road: take care on the immediate blind bend, since oncoming traffic often doesn't!) and STRAIGHT OVER the next (slightly kinked) five-way junction, into Taunton Drive
Burnham Chase is the 3rd LEFT, the one after the pillar-box. If you start going steeply downhill, you've gone too far (but carry on down, turn LEFT, then 2nd LEFT - beside Exford Arms pub and immediately LEFT again, to enter Burnham Chase from the other end)
"The First" is the first house on right (with holly hedge) not the bungalow on the corner (which, despite the gateway, is 45 Taunton Drive)
From e.g. Woolston go STRAIGHT ON at four sets of lights: 1st at Lances'
Hill; 2nd (pelican) & 3rd (get in left lane) by Safeways; 4th over concrete bridge
Route (B): follow your usual route to Cobden Bridge across River Itchen (get into right-hand lane on bridge)
Pass to the RIGHT of the Clock Tower and (ignoring BITTERNE signs) at next set of lights, observe filter-arrows STRAIGHT ON up the hill (Cobden Avenue) which then runs steeply down, winds left and right on the flat (Mousehole Lane) before starting to climb again.
Route (C): follow your usual route to Woodmill across River Itchen
Keep STRAIGHT ON uphill, then down, round several bends, passing The Castle pub on right and a Blue Chip garage on left. At foot of the hill down, main track bears LEFT. Giving way immediately to traffic from your right, follow this up Mousehole Lane
Off roundabout by The Cat and Mouse pub (once The Bitteme Brewery) take 3rd exit (Route A) / 2nd exit (B & C), for WEST END, past Alldays.
