Fo'c'sle Programme September 2001

7 Opening Night - Anything Goes

At our "Anything Goes" evenings, come to listen, perform, make friends or just to fetch the beer - with the emphasis on any new skills or music (or tastes in beer or gossip) picked up during the Summer. Hammer your dulcimer! Strip your cloggie! (who said that?) Make the [Duke of] Welliekin ring!

14 William Pint & Felicia Dale

Last here in May 2000, they have to be grabbed when in the UK - stunning harmonies and irresistible ancient melodies from all round the world with vocals (occasionally in French) and instrumental wizardry on guitar, mandola, pennywhistles, percussion and (Felicia's speciality) hurdy-gurdy.

NB Southampton Boat Show 14-23 September

21 Alistair Hulett

One of the most telling songwriters of his age (count how many covers by the likes of Roy Bailey), Aly is a great performer in his own right and a privilege to have in the Club. After a long spell in Australia he is back in Glasgow and performing in various prestigious duos (including Swarb on the Shieldhall in '98) as well as solo. Charisma with a Conscience.

His CD 'Dance of the Underclass' has attracted considerable attention, and Alistair's song 'The Swaggies Have All Waltzed Matilda Away' has become an end-of-evening anthem in Australia and is rapidly spreading in popularity here. The Plains of Maralinga (which must cause a certain former Australian politician great and deserved embarrassment) is a favourite of Enda Kenny and many others. His new CD "In Sleepy Scotland" received a rave review in Folk on Tap with the parting shot "One of the defining voices of Scottish Music".
