"listening to his work brings to mind a stream of adjectives. Try these for a start: hard-hitting, honest, humorous thought-provoking, challenging, demanding, sensitive, irreverent," -Muso, live review.
"Robb Johnson is now regarded as one of Britain's finest solo performers... he regularly impresses audiences with his outstanding guitar work and moving heartfelt songs." -The Half Way Crazy Club, London
"Robb Johnson was magnificent" -MoJo
Last year was quite a good year for Robb; as well as the usual solo gigs at various clubs, arts centres, festivals etc. & the occasional electric band gig, in March he appeared with Roy Bailey at the Albert Hall concert celebrating Roy's 40 years of singing. In November, with Roy, & Vera Coomans & Philip Hoessen from Belgium, he toured the Gentle Men suite, written for the 1997 Passendale Peace Concert, and the double CD of the concert was MOJO Folk Album of The Month and Daily Telegraph Folk Album of The Year. In October Irregular Records released Ne Me Quitte Pas / Brel Songs By ... 18 new recordings of Brel songs by English and Belgian artists organised by Robb to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Brel's death.
This year in addition to solo gigs, Robb will be performing some concerts with fellow songwriter Leon Rosselson, and appearing at Sidmouth Folk Festival with Chilean musician Mauricio Venegas in a special concert devoted to the life and songs of Victor Jara. Robb's latest album, The Big Wheel, will be available on Irregular Records in April 1999.
