6 Si Kahn (USA)
Well respected singer/song-writer and activist best known over here for ``Aragon Mill" often attributed to ``trad". His songs are covered by many singers who wish they had written them.
7 9.30am Saturday workshop with Si Kahn and Leon Rosselson. Two brilliant songwriters with very different styles of song share their methods with you. Compare and contrast their styles, get some help with developing your own.
13 Anything Goes Informal DIY music evening especially for those who like to participate. Admission free; optional collection and raffle.
20 Lee Collinson (right) Virtuoso guitarist wih centuries-wide repertoire and vocals to match. Lee honed his technique in the fire and flame of rock before realising that his inclinations and his talents demanded a future in the folk scene with solo guitar and vocals. His slide guitar in "Purple Pas de Deux" has thrilled audiences and musicians alike, whilst his collaborations with artists such as Richard Thompson testify to the regard in which he is held.

6 Songwriters' Concert at the Turner Sims The culmination of the series of workshops held round the region during the autumn. A fantastic line-up of talent - Ashley Hutchings, Barb Jungr, Roger Watson with special guest Richard Thompson who will also perform a set of his own compositions. Special discount price of £7.50 for Fo'c'sle members.

10 Opening Anything Goes 8pm at the Duke of Wellington, Bugle St. Bugle St. runs from the back of the old St. Michael's church in the old town down towards Mayflower Park. The Duke of Wellington is an historic pub about half-way between the two. There are a number of car parks in the area, together with on-street parking if any is left.

2 Tom Lewis

sub-mariner extraordinary (left), one of the original Portsmouth Shantymen (their current line-up is still going strong after 18 years) who moved to the States a while ago. Tom is revisiting his old haunts this spring, where he is still remembered by a lot of local people. He now performs a wide variety of material not forgetting the occasional shanty.

6 Roger Watson & Peter Bolton

Roger is the leading light of TAPS (Traditional Arts Project South) and you may have heard him and Peter (our own Turner Sims concert hall manager on folk clarinet) playing together at last December's Songmakers Concert. Folk with a classical edge. 13 Family Cidlinsky

direct from the Czech Republic (below right). The Cidlinsky parents run a music school in the Czech Republic and frequently broadcast over there. They are touring the UK as a family and sing a variety of folk based material with accompaniments including banjo and guitar. This is the way that popular music is developing in the Czech Republic and the rest of Eastern Europe since the fall of Communism; a meld of the highly rythmic European folk ballad with American and other Western influences. The performers are highly charismatic and a live show featuring them is something else.

27 AGM and Anything Goes Farewell for the Summer

Come and voice your opinion about the running of the club and arrange to see all your friends at the Summer Festivals.
The club is closed for July and August but will re-open at The Duke of Wellington with an Anything Goes to the Festivals on September 12 1997. On September 19 we will meet for one night only at 3 Manchester Road, Netley Abbey while the Duke is swamped by the Boat Show. There will also be several informal 'get togethers' at members' houses during the summer - watch this space or inquire at the club
