Fo'c'sle Programme December 2000

1 Anything Goes

With contributions from Poole Bay Shantymen.

The Poole Bay Shantymen started up a year or two ago as a fairly informal group of like-minded friends from the Hampshire/Dorset borders. Since then they have instituted regular practice sessions and have broadened their repertoire to include a range of traditional songs as well as shanties. They have already performed in a few Clubs on a more or less formal basis and now the Fo'c'sle is delighted that they wish to come along and show us what they can do.

8 Risky Business

Manchester-based and highly talented. Remember Ruth Fuga's superb voice with her theme song 'Something in Red' irresistably accompanied by Ken Powell and Dave Walmisley (guitars, mandolin, vocals). Dave writes many of the songs, poignant and wistful like 'Rosemary's Garden' or the atmospheric 'Africa' written in Scotland when homesick. They're bringing their new third CD, so resist it if you can!

15 Christmas get-together and Feast with Anything Goes, King John's Mummers and ClauseIV

No charge, but please book your place!

Tony Fry writes:

"I had a phone call from Simon Poole in Australia. Simon and I used to play in a band called Clause 4 in the mid-eighties ... anyway, Simon will be visiting the UK just before Christmas and is anxious to put the band together for one night (the 15th December). He's contacting the other surviving members: John Summerton (who now lives in Macclesfield) and the guitarist before me Tim Elliott (who has returned to the UK and is now a professor at Soton University). So what we're asking is could we have an extended spot at the Fo'c'sle that evening please? I think we can guarantee an entertaining and lively time ... ask Brian and Rockie. They'll remember us."
