2 (Good Friday) Anything Goes

Play or Sing, read a Poem, tell a Story, listen, fetch the beer, anything

9 Steve & Kristi Nebel

Steve and Kristi are both from singing families (Kristi’s parents were a barbershop duo). They perform with verve and humanity (either solo or duo) with Steve on guitar and Kristi on Ibanez bass and their great rapport and infectious enthusiasm will be remembered from previous visits - they “draw you into a tale and make you care about the people and places” (Dirty Linen). The songs of this lovable duo are based on the people they meet and on the past and present pioneer culture of the US Pacific North-West (where they live) with some of Steve’s songs having a wry ‘don’t mess with Mother Nature’ aspect. As well as performing in Folk Clubs in the UK and USA, the Nebels have graced many historically-themed events in their home country with their own specially-written songs.

16 Anything Goes

23 Chris Coe and Johnny Adams

As a singer/balladeer, playing hammered dulcimer, duet concertina, Appalachian dulcimer and percussion (6 pairs of hands) and clog dancing, Chris's traditional musical pedigree since the 1960s includes a duo with Pete Coe and performing with such iconic groups as 'Bandoggs', 'New Victory Band', 'Tigermoth', Red Shift, 'English Country Blues Band' and more… She now works solo, as a duo with Johnny and plus Pete Coe as a trio; also sometimes in 4-piece band 'Ryburn 3 Step' with Pete and Sue Coe, somehow finding time to teach voice/singing, dance/movement and run community/festival workshops as well as undergraduate tuition at Newcastle University AND she's a visual artist/designer!! Starting in Derby as part of 'The Druids', John Adams (fiddle, melodeon, keyboards) went on over the years to perform with the seminal 'Muckram Wakes', 'New Victory Band', 'Red Shift' and more recently as a brass player with 'The Old Swan Band' as well as with Chris Coe, Ryburn 3 Step and Pete Coe. All this alongside researching English social dance music of the l8th/19th .centuries with The Village Music project and publishing 1000s of dance tunes online, many of which he plays on fiddle with his occasional band 'Our Northern Branch'. As 'sidelines', he co-ordinates folklorist Doc Rowe's support group, directs the Paul Graney Archive Project (online 50s/60s/70s recordings from NW England), directs 'Folkopedia' (online encyclopedia), broadcasts a folk radio show on Phoenix FM (West Yorks) and he's a recording artist/producer with an extensive discography. John and Chris combine forces to present their own lively and absorbing brand of mainly traditional songs and tunes. A must-see 'natural' duo for St. Georges Day.
