Wednesday January 7th 2004 saw the 30th anniversary of The White Horse Folk Club and a large crowd of people enjoyed the party at The Fox Inn, Highworth. Festive victuals included a cake, cleverly decorated with a white horse on a green hill by Helen, long-serving treasurer of the club while Mervyn , who founded the club in 1974, presided over the novelty cake recently made for his 80th birthday. Folksingers came from as far away as Wales and Bristol to join with local members to celebrate the anniversary and sing a great variety of songs with Guests Norman & Betty McDonald.

Bill Bailey of Highworth, who ran the club for the last sixteen years, unfortunately passed away after a short illness last October. Members agreed that Bill would have been pleased with the turn-out and happy about the continued survival of a purely acoustic club in a technological age.

Performers of every style are encouraged at the club, which meets at The Fox Inn on the first and third Wednesday each month at 8.30pm. Members sing in the Forge at the back of the pub and Mary, the landlady gives everybody a warm welcome. Well–known performers as well as newcomers to the scene are a regular feature of the folk club, alternating with singaround evenings when everyone has a chance to perform.
