Three's Company

Warm-hearted and rich-toned harmony group - à capella singing has interested THREE'S COMPANY for more years than they care to remember, and they remember a few! Alison Campion, Mary and Martin Lee have been singing for themselves ever since they met in the seventies. At that time Martin was singing with the Higgledy-Piggledy band and later with Jones and Co. The girls had opened and run an informal evening each week in the Nurses Home as they were training at the General Hospital in Southampton.

Today THREE'S COMPANY are beginning to be known in the Southern Folk Scene and have been booked at some of the folk clubs in the area including the Fo'c'sle, where they also brought the house down at Jim Bailey's birthday party! One of the wonders in our midst with a nice line in seemingly spontaneous songs. . They are regular performers at the Woolston and Netley Folk Club.

Martin writes a number of the songs and they are arranged, as these things are, by the whole group. Alison's husband wrote the lyrics for "John Clare", Alison herself being a descendant of the nineteenth century 'peasant poet'.

"Unaccompanied singing, used for a whole evening can get to be too much, so we like to enliven our sets by the introduction of a few humourous songs and some that are accompanied by the guitar", says Martin. " We try to get as much variety into the performances as we can and going to functions like the Voice Tour in Bournemouth and the Bracknell Harmony Day has helped us get new ideas". Watch this space!

Local Women's Institutes and functions including a Burn's Night and performances at the Romsey Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society's theatre in Romsey have shown that THREE'S COMPANY are nothing if not versatile.
