Christina Waldron

Christina was well-known in the Rochdale area at one time, where she organised a Folk Club as well as being a well-thought-of singer.

After some fallow years she moved South, started to enlarge her repertoire and actively look for bookings. She sings a wide variety of traditional and traditional-style contemporary songs, with a particular line in Lancashire-sourced material.

Her fine, pleasing folk-style voice bursts with humanity and needs no accompaniment.

Christina writes of herself:

"I started singing when I was a kid - doing shows and singing in choirs - but I fell in love with folk music when I was 15 and set out on what has proved a lifelong love affair.

"As well as running Folk Clubs and raising my family I have been slowly growing into the songs, and only now do I feel able to do them justice.

"I sang with The New Bracken Band for 2 years during which time we played in Brittany and Ireland as well as on the North West England folk circuit. We entered and won 1st prize at The Edinburgh Folk Festival Competition in 1983 - a real experience!

"I left the Band and decided I wanted to specialise in unaccompanied singing which I love.

"I moved to the Southampton/Portsmouth area some years ago and I am enjoying the people and the music immensely."

Now involved with an innovative Church Music project at her local Church, helping to bring participation back to the congregation by moving amongst them.
